Special Promotion - two free copies of "When There is No FEMA"

Hi All,

I really need to get some copies of my new book out and in the hands of preppers, so I thought I would give away free copies to the first three people who add comments for this announcement on the web site. So, just visit the web site and add a comment to it, and if you're one of the first three, then I'll follow up with an email and get a free copy to you. The book normally sells for $32.

Restarting regular monthly meetings in N. Tampa in January

Hi All,

I'll begin re-scheduling our regular monthly meetings in North Tampa in January. These past months have kept me pretty busy getting my preparedness book out the door, and I've been focused on health issues as well. I would resume sooner but I'm sure the demands of the holiday season will keep everyone busy. Maybe I'll announce a small organizational meeting during the holidays, though, to identify some ideas for the new year.

Obligatory plug: Anyone interested in my new book can preview the first 30 pages at http://nofema.com

Tropical Storm Karen

Tropical Storm Karen is currently situated off the north-eastern Yucatan Peninsula at this hour. This storm is intensifying, and is expected to reach Florida. A hurricane hunter is deployed, and is investigating the storm at this hour.

Tropical Storm Chantal

Folks, it's looking like TS Chantal will be making its rapid way through the Caribbean and then hooking north-west to threaten Florida. That being said, it looks like this is going to be just another weekend rain event.

The details are, Chantal is a very fast-moving storm, and such storms don't pick up a lot of energy as they transit the tropics. Most of the computer projections show that, not only will the storm lose a lot of strength as it bashes across Cuba and Hispaniola, but neighboring weather patterns will weaken it further.

Tropical Storm Andrea

And now we have our first named storm of the season, Andrea...

TS Andrea gained strength over the course of the day, becoming more organized; however the computer models form a consensus that the storm is not likely to reach Category 1 strength prior to landfall.

Andrea is projected to make landfall along an area between Crystal River to Apalachicola, with the Big Bend area the most likely target.

Powder and Primers

Powder Attack:The Next Wave of Gun Regulation

Senator Harry Reid has introduced a new bill, S.792, the majority leader (D-NV) has labeled as “A bill to strengthen the enforcement of background checks with respect to the use of explosive materials.” In short, the measure would require background checks for anyone purchasing “explosive materials” or “powders” commonly used to manufacture ammunition and fireworks, according to The Hill.

Hurricane Debby vs. Florida

Greetings, Folks!

I have been tracking the events surrounding Hurricane Debby for most of Sunday 24 JUN.

Here in Tampa, the eastern portions of the county never lost services, whether power, comms, or business access. There have been several reports at this hour about road flooding, scattered damage to structures resulting from straightline winds, and immense rainfall in Pinellas County. Some power outages have been reported in Pinellas as well, with over 12,000 customers in the dark.

Self Reliance Picnic 2JUN2012

Hey Everyone,

I've setup an Evite System for the Self Reliance Picnic we'll be having on 2JUN2012. The picnic will be held at Lithia Springs State Park. We'll be getting things started probably around 10 and going until we stop, which may be pretty late since some of us are camping at the park that weekend. If you want an evite for the picnic send me an email at connor(dot)odonnellgmail[dot]com.

Keep an eye out here and on the forums for a complete presentation list and updated info.

How a big US bank laundered billions from Mexico's murderous drug gangs

(Bank-side of things)

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/03/us-bank-mexico-drug-gangs

On 10 April 2006, a DC-9 jet landed in the port city of Ciudad del Carmen, on the Gulf of Mexico, as the sun was setting. Mexican soldiers, waiting to intercept it, found 128 cases packed with 5.7 tons of cocaine, valued at $100m. But something else – more important and far-reaching – was discovered in the paper trail behind the purchase of the plane by the Sinaloa narco-trafficking cartel.
