Self Reliance Picnic 2JUN2012

Hey Everyone,

I've setup an Evite System for the Self Reliance Picnic we'll be having on 2JUN2012. The picnic will be held at Lithia Springs State Park. We'll be getting things started probably around 10 and going until we stop, which may be pretty late since some of us are camping at the park that weekend. The University of Florida, Hillsborough Extension Services is offering a class on Saturday, July 16 - 10am-2pm. Title, "How to Make and Use a Solar Cooker". The class looks like it is located in Sefner.

If this site seems dead, I'd recommend going to the Forum section and looking around. That's what I did, and found a lot of content that didn't make it on this main page.

New Nightly Emails Going Out

I've added a new nightly process that sends out emails every night to all members who have enabled alert notifications in their user profiles. These emails contain a list of all updated forum discussions, blog postings, meeting and other announcements and polls that have been added/updated within the past 24 hours.

This should help to increase participation and the exchange of ideas within the site.

Thu Apr 14 meeting - Discussing the 10 most Common Prepper Mistakes

At this meeting we'll begin a discussion of the 10 most common mistakes that prepper's make. Also, we'll kick off the meeting with a presentation of a local vendor who offers freeze-dried foods as well as other essential emergency equipment. I thought this was important as there are now long delays when ordering freeze-dried foods from the more popular on-line suppliers. We'll also be discussing events and activities for us to schedule for the remainder of this year.

As usual we'll have pizza available for purchase by the slice, as well as beverages.

Deane will be in Ocala this Saturday (March 26th) 9am-1pm. Anyone want to carpool? I have been on 2 walks thus far and am learning quite a bit. I find myself walking head down checking out weeds constantly. I am very interested in wound healing/antibiotics and have learned two common weeds so far. Hopefully I won't start running into things.

The Upcoming Floral City Trip

We've finally nailed down a time for our trip to check out Floral City (and surrounding region, as time permits). That trip will happen on Saturday, April 2. I'll post more details on this as the day draws a little closer.
