Tropical Storm Andrea

And now we have our first named storm of the season, Andrea...

TS Andrea gained strength over the course of the day, becoming more organized; however the computer models form a consensus that the storm is not likely to reach Category 1 strength prior to landfall.

Andrea is projected to make landfall along an area between Crystal River to Apalachicola, with the Big Bend area the most likely target.

Powder Attack:The Next Wave of Gun Regulation

Senator Harry Reid has introduced a new bill, S.792, the majority leader (D-NV) has labeled as “A bill to strengthen the enforcement of background checks with respect to the use of explosive materials.” In short, the measure would require background checks for anyone purchasing “explosive materials” or “powders” commonly used to manufacture ammunition and fireworks, according to The Hill.

Hurricane Debby vs. Florida

Greetings, Folks!

I have been tracking the events surrounding Hurricane Debby for most of Sunday 24 JUN.

Here in Tampa, the eastern portions of the county never lost services, whether power, comms, or business access. There have been several reports at this hour about road flooding, scattered damage to structures resulting from straightline winds, and immense rainfall in Pinellas County. Some power outages have been reported in Pinellas as well, with over 12,000 customers in the dark.

Self Reliance Picnic 2JUN2012

Hey Everyone,

I've setup an Evite System for the Self Reliance Picnic we'll be having on 2JUN2012. The picnic will be held at Lithia Springs State Park. We'll be getting things started probably around 10 and going until we stop, which may be pretty late since some of us are camping at the park that weekend. If you want an evite for the picnic send me an email at connor(dot)odonnellgmail[dot]com.

Keep an eye out here and on the forums for a complete presentation list and updated info.

How a big US bank laundered billions from Mexico's murderous drug gangs

(Bank-side of things)

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/03/us-bank-mexico-drug-gangs

On 10 April 2006, a DC-9 jet landed in the port city of Ciudad del Carmen, on the Gulf of Mexico, as the sun was setting. Mexican soldiers, waiting to intercept it, found 128 cases packed with 5.7 tons of cocaine, valued at $100m. But something else – more important and far-reaching – was discovered in the paper trail behind the purchase of the plane by the Sinaloa narco-trafficking cartel.

Slight change to the site

Today I modified the FloridaReadiness.org web site to not display blog postings by default on the home page. If you wish to view recent blog postings then please select the 'blogs' option from the main menu.

Site navigation

If this site seems dead, I'd recommend going to the Forum section and looking around. That's what I did, and found a lot of content that didn't make it on this main page.

Pinellas Group Meeting

For discussions relevant to the meeting held last night please stop by this thread:

on the forums. We had 9 people attend the first meeting of the group and I look forward to watching it grow and mature.

New Nightly Emails Going Out

I've added a new nightly process that sends out emails every night to all members who have enabled alert notifications in their user profiles. These emails contain a list of all updated forum discussions, blog postings, meeting and other announcements and polls that have been added/updated within the past 24 hours.

This should help to increase participation and the exchange of ideas within the site.

Anybody Stop By The Forums Anymore?

So, compared to the old forums at the other site....these're dead.....

Since I liked the activity on the old forums I've taken the liberty of going through and adding my 2 cents to a bunch of stuff and starting a new thread. I'd encourage ya'll to do the same, let's get some life going at this site!
